Sikh groups question Punjab CM over Bargari sacrilege case

JALANDHAR: When murder of Bargari sacrilege key accused Mohinderpal Bittu in Nabha jail has already pushed the sacrilege and related issues in the political centre stage once again, Sikh groups have asked Captain Amarinder Singh government to clarify about the progress in Bargari sacrilege case saying that little was done in the last one year after it was cracked and Sirsa dera followers were arrested.
They have also questioned CM’s silence on Maur blast case of February 2017 and have asked that why the investigations in the terror case were halted after Sirsa dera’s name cropped up in the case and cops had reportedly reached near the doors of the dera.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Alliance of Sikh Organizations - a conglomerate of 30 Sikh groups, spokespersons Sukhdev Singh Phagwara, Parmpal Singh Sabhra and Sikh author Gurbachan Singh said that Punjab CM should tell the people that why the sacrilege case had not been taken back from CBI despite Punjab assembly passing a resolution on May 28 last year, CBI did little in the case due to which accused could manage to get bails.
"Now it has come out that 21 of the 26 accused have already secured bails and CBI did little in the case. It seems that Amarinder government just wanted to exploit the issue of sacrilege during Parliament elections and actually they were in no hurry to deliver justice in the case. The claims being made that Bittu’s murder would now hamper the investigation are just excuses as government should tell that what did they do to reach Sirsa dera head’s neck through Bittu in the last one year,” they asked.

Sikh author Gurbachan Singh said that while Punjab CM loved to speak against Canada on the issue of promoting Khalistani elements but here he was completely silent on Maur blast case in which seven innocents were killed and investigations revealed that Sirsa dera was involved in it. “CM should explain that why the investigation in Maur blast case was halted last year after cops had almost reached to the dera,” he and Alliance leaders said.
Sikh groups have also questioned that why was Amarinder government not re-opening May 2007 blasphemy case against dera head who was earlier saved by Badal regime by getting him discharged in the case.
