Gang used suitcase with hidden slots to cheat bizmen

Surat: The gang of 11, arrested for duping businessman by offering discounted gold, used a traditional cheating method of suitcase having hidden compartments.
The suitcase that opens from two sides was used by the gang members to exchange cash given by the victims.
When they received cash from victims, some member kept the money in a bag and put it in the suitcase. After closing the suitcase, they kept the victims busy in talks and within seconds one of them flipped the suitcase by diverting attention of the buyer. Once opened after flipping, there was another bag of same colour that contained paper bundles cut in shape and size of currency notes.
“They used to cancel the transaction after receiving cash on some or the other pretext. Sometimes they gave an excuse that they don’t do business after 5pm and returned the bag with paper bundles and escaped with the cash,” said G P Patel, police inspector, crime branch.

The accused contacted the businessmen after finding their details from online trading websites and offered gold at discount of Rs three lakh per kilo. Once the victim arrived, they held meeting at a public place and gave a real gold bar to check its quality.
When the victim agreed to buy gold after checking the sample bar, they used to delay the delivery of gold by claiming that the gold has been sent for testing in laboratory to get certificate. After a while, they cancelled the transaction and returned the paper bundles instead of cash.
