AHMEDABAD: Some residents of Kamal Nayan
housing society located in the posh Navrangpura area of the city on Sunday protested against paying guests of Sanskar PG accommodation holding that the presence of women paying guests caused law and order problems. Most of the protesters were women themselves.
This is the same housing society where in a 29-year-old food delivery man, Bhavin Shah had molested a 23-year-old girl, who was asleep. After this incident was reported widely, police took the complaint of the girl and booked the accused on the same day.
Some residents of the society highlighted the incident as an example of alleged ‘unethical’ and illegal activities that take place in the PG accommodation which is the temporary home in this city for at least 100 women living away from their families.
A resident of Kamal Nayan, Poonam Gauswami along with five others held a protest shouting slogans ‘PG Hatao, Kamal Nayan Bachao’ (remove PG, save Kamal Nayan). When the owner of the PG facility, Sunny Singh, came to know about the protest, he rushed to the spot and called up police control room.
Two cops from Navrangpura police station arrived, took Singh’s statement and then went away. Locals of the area also seemed tense with frequent visits of cops there. Meanwhile, residents of Kamal Nayan continued to share their grievance with media people.
Gauswami said that the PG owner had made illegal construction to accommodate more girls which is not in the interest of other members.
“Women create nuisance in this PG. They shout and party till late night causing trouble to our kids and elderly citizens. Not only that, the women living in PG do not dress properly, roam late in the night and often call in their male friends,” Gauswami alleged.
Singh, owner of the PG, said that he has not done anything illegal and he had obtained permission of authorities for making any construction. He said society residents were conducting commercial activities in Kamal Nayan.
