Two glasses with traces of liquor and a cigarette packet were found in the dining room of the Vasant Vihar flat where an elderly couple and their caretaker were found dead on Sunday morning, an officer said.
The bodies of Vishnu Mathur (78), his wife Shashi (75), and Khushboo Nautiyal (22) were found in their two-bedroom flat on the first floor of Vasant Apartments in south Delhi on Sunday morning.
The mobile phone of the caretaker, Khusboo, is missing from the flat, he said. The glasses were kept opposite to each other next to Khusboo’s body, the officer added.
“A few cigarettes filters were found at the crime spot,” the officer said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Devender Arya said the forensic team has collected several samples, including fingerprints, from the flat.
The elderly couple had given a phone to Khusboo to help them video chat with their only daughter, who is married and lives in East of Kailash, the police said.
Video call with daughter
On Saturday at 8.30 p.m., the couple had a video chat with their daughter.
It appears that the accused knew the three people and might have consumed alcohol inside the flat before committing the crime. “We are waiting for the post-mortem report to ascertain if Khusboo consumed liquor with the murderer or if there was more than one accused. The medical report will also clear up whether the couple was drugged before they were killed,” said the officer.
“It appears that the murders took place between midnight and 1 a.m. The bodies of the couple were found lying on the bed. Khushboo’s body was found in the dining room. There was no sign of a scuffle or any resistance from any of the victims,” Mr. Arya added. The police said they have obtained CCTV footage from the location.
