CPI asks Railways to implement long pending projects

The Communist Party of India, Thanjavur District Council and the Thanjavur District Rail Passengers Welfare Association called upon the Southern Railway General Manager on Monday urging him to initiate steps for implementation of various projects pending for long in this region.

In a petition, CPI district secretary M. A. Bharathi, said that the project approved by the Railway Board in 2013 for construction of railway line between Thanjavur and Pattukottai and the sanction given for taking up of a survey for a new broad gauge line between Thanjavur and Ariyalur in 2014, be expedited for the benefit of rail commuters.

Revival of Chennai-Tuticorin Janata Express and Chennai-Sengottah Fast Passenger services, introduction of a daily express service between Mayiladuthurai and Bengaluru through Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Tiruchi, Karur and Salem, introduction of Intercity Super Fast Express between Thanjavur and Chennai through Kumbakonam, extension of Tiruchi-Thiruvananthapuram Intercity SF Express, in both directions, up to Mayiladuthurai, utilising the Uzhavan Express rake to operate shuttle service between Thanjavur and Villupuram as the rake remains idle at Tiruchi for more than 12 hours in a day, conversion of Chennai-Madurai Super Fast Express in both directions and the tri-weekly Rameshwaram-Tirupati Express, in both directions, as daily services were the other demands put forth in the memorandum.
