Gujarat: Woman accuses in-laws of torture over dowry

AHMEDABAD: A woman has lodged a complaint with the police alleging harassment at the hands of her husband and in-laws.
Radhika Patel, 31, of Naroda who runs a beauty parlour has lodged a complaint with Naroda police station alleging that her husband Adhikkumar Patel who is in Poland on a study visa, father-in-law Parveen Patel, brother-in-law Hiren Patel and one Urmila Patel have harrased her for dowry.
According to complaint lodged by Patel, after divorce she married Adhikkumar. "After living peacefully for about six months her husband started quarreling with her son Tushar from her first husband with the support of rest of the accused," said a police official.

In her complaint Patel has mentioned that in February 2018 Adhikkumar left for Poland on study visa. "After that her brother-in-law started demanding money. About ten months ago they got her husband engaged with Urmila Patel of Kalol and she has learnt that they are going to get Adhikkumar married with Urmila in July 2019," said a police official.
The FIR mentions that Patel asked her husband over the phone about his marriage but did not get a proper reply. However, the FIR states that other accused said that "what have you given us, Urmila's family is giving us a huge dowry amount?" They also threatened Patel with dire consequences if she raises any objection to the marriage. Patel has even stated in the FIR that Urmila Prajapati has also threatened her to stay away from her and Adhikkumar.
