PGs, guesthouses in Sushant Lok 1 dump trash on road, residents fume

Residents claim commercial activities are carried out in over 300 buildings in the area
GURUGRAM: The residents of Sushant Lok 1’s C block have written to the MCG and town and country planning department to take action against property owners who are operating paying guest (PG) accommodations and other commercial activities in the area.
“The 60 sq yard houses falling in EWS category and almost 300+ other houses have set up as PGs/guesthouses creating nuisance for the residents living in the area,” said Neelu Sharma, a resident.
She also said it has become a big cause of worry for the residents staying with families and barely any help is extended by the government authorities to address the same despite of several complaints. Another resident Jitendra Kumar said, “These property owners dump garbage on roads, and water overflows from the tank all the times. Not just this, overloading of transformers is causing electricity issues in the area as each house has at least 12 to 15 air conditioners,” he added.
On Sunday, the RWA of Sushant Lok 1 tweeted a photograph showing water accumulated outside a house and garbage dumped on the roadside. Reacting to the tweet, MCG sought more details and assured action on the complaint.
Anshul Sharma, a resident, claimed that that there are 600 houses in the area that come under the EWS category, of which around 50% of the houses are built to operate commercial businesses. “These houses are constructed by the builders with the purpose to offer furnished rental or PG set up with one or two room sets. Generally, in one 60 Sq Yards of plot there are 10 to 15 sets of PGs or furnished rooms constructed,” he said.

When TOI visited the spot, it was that garbage was dumped on the road by most of the houses which were not being collected on a regular basis. Due to regular dismantling of old houses and new contruction work taking place in the area, a substantial amount of debris was also found dumped on the internal roads.
When contacted, a senior MCG official said the department has received complaints in this regard, and it will soon initiate action.
