The Kothanur police have arrested a gang of four who not only robbed a 40-year-old autorickshaw driver, but also forcibly took him to his house, looted cash and gold worth ₹70,000, and sexually assaulted his wife.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday when the victim was returning home after dropping off a few passengers at a hospital in K.G. Halli. When his autorickshaw reached Venkateshpura main road, five armed men stopped the vehicle and got into it. The autorickshaw met with an accident on the way and the passengers sustained minor injuries.
Enraged by this, the passengers thrashed him and snatched ₹1,000 from him on the pretext of getting medical treatment. The accused then forced him to take them to his house to get more money.
At his house, the gang members locked up his wife and three children in a room, and ransacked the house to search for valuables. The accused took away ₹30,000 in cash and some gold jewellery, according to the complaint.
Two of the accused took the victim’s wife outside the house and sexually assaulted her, the police said.
The gang then fled the scene after threatening the family with dire consequences. The victim then filed a police complaint. One of the accused is on the run.
