KURUKSHETRA: The National Highway (NH) 44, famously known as Grand Trunk (GT) Road, is proving to be the most fatal road in the region. As per the data obtained, 96 fatalities have taken place on this road in the last five months under the jurisdiction of the
Kurukshetra district in
Haryana.
The administration has identified
19 black spots on the GT Road to reduce the number of fatal crashes, said Kurukshetra deputy commissioner (DC) SS Phulia.
The official said compared to the last year, the number of fatalities has decreased, but a district-level safety action plan (SAP) has been drawn.
Under the SAP, in the first level, 19 black spots have been identified on
NH-44 and after keeping a special focus on these spots. The efforts will be made to decrease the fatal crashes by 70 to 80 per cent by improving the infrastructure and removing the reasons which caused the accidents.
On Monday, DC Phulia chaired a monthly meeting, attended by the nodal officer ADC Parth Gupta, Kurukshetra SP Astha Modi and the officials of the National Highway Authority of Indian, forest department and public welfare department.
