PUNE: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday released a coffee table book titled ‘Smrutichitre’ published by the Pune Union of Working Journalists (PUWJ) showcasing the 80-year-old glorious history of the institution.

Fadnavis appreciated this initiative of preserving and documenting the history of this organisation. He also elaborated on various initiatives for journalists like pension, inclusion in Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Scheme, efforts for housing, etc.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said, “In our country preserving the history of an institution is not done in an appropriate manner. However, the same history is indispensable for us and the future generation in the moment of crisis. PUWJ has verily taken a great step by preserving this glorious history in the form of Smrutichitre.”

Newly-elected Member of Parliament from Pune, Girish Bapat, PUWJ President Rajendra Patil, General Secretary Pandurang Sandbhor and member Prashant Aher were also present on the occasion.

“I consider myself fortunate to be a part of such a significant moment of publishing this book with historic entitlements of the PUWJ and I am sure that in the next decade when another book will be published, this particular moment will be a part of it as well,” Fadnavis said.

“As I stand here to speak at his programme I am reminded of the tough older times when we all together worked doggedly for the creation of this building of the PUWJ at Navi Peth. I take this as a proud moment for myself to be present at the launch of this book,” said Bapat.
