The logistics sector is likely to add 149,000 new jobs between April and September of this fiscal thanks to a growing online seller base in smaller cities, says the TeamLease Services' biannual 'Employment Outlook' report.
The report estimates that the logistics sector will witness a growth of 3%.
"The logistics sector employs around 8.24 million people as of second half of 2018-19. The penetration of e-commerce companies to tier-II and -III cities has created an increased demand for talent in this sector," said Teamlease Services' head of industrial, manufacturing and engineering vertical, Sudeep Sen,.
The sector is forecast to witness 14.19% job growth with railways, waterways, air freight and warehousing recruiting the most.
With 31,480 new jobs, Mumbai tops the list of cities with maximum opportunities that the logistics sector can offer followed by Delhi with an addition of 28,510 new jobs in the same period. Hiring sentiment will see an increase of 5% in Tier-II cities while Tier-III towns and rural areas will see a growth of 2% each.
The hiring outlook for mid-level employees however, is expected to grow by 4% and the same at entry and junior levels is expected to grow by 3% each.
The report added that attrition rates in the logistics sector will not be significant as against 17.27% that the sector saw in October-March, 2018-19.
