A 22-year-old man from Kerala was arrested by the police for stabbing a woman at R.S. Puram in Coimbatore on Monday.

Suresh, a native of Palakkad, was arrested after he stabbed the 20-year-old woman, also from Palakkad, with a sharp weapon that he had carried in his pocket. Suresh was overpowered by members of the public and handed over to the R.S. Puram police.

According to the police, Suresh and the woman studied in a Government educational institution at Shoranur in Palakkad and they were allegedly in a relationship for nearly two years. Around two months ago, the woman asked Suresh not to contact her, as her parents came to know about the affair and opposed it. She moved to Coimbatore recently after she got placement in a company.

The police said that the incident took place around 6.30 p.m. when the woman came out from her office. Though Suresh, who was waiting outside the office, tried to speak her, she walked away. Annoyed by her behaviour, the man took out a sharp weapon and attacked her. While Suresh was caught by onlookers and handed over to the police, the injured woman was rushed to a private hospital. A case has been registered against Suresh for attempt to murder.
