Sam Edelman, owner of Alice Springs KFC in the Northern Territory, claimed to have  served customers who travel up to 1000 kilometres just to eat at his store.

Mr Edelman, who claims to run the 'most remote KFC in the world', said his humble store was worthy of dining's most prestigious award.

The Michelin star – a highly-coveted culinary honour – is a prestigious title awarded to restaurants according to the quality of their food and service.

Restaurants can receive between one and three stars.

One star indicates the food's restaurant has excellent quality, two meaning the menu is suitable for a detour and three means the premise deserves a special visit.

Only 121 restaurants in the world have three Michelin stars.

'That's part of the criteria – the food is worth a detour, worth a journey to enjoy,' Mr Edelman told Daily Mail Australia.

He said he believed his store has mastered the Kentucky fried chicken flavours and cooking techniques with consistency.

'We have a unique position where we get customers coming from a long way making the journey to this outback KFC for our exceptional cooking,' he said.

Michelin inspectors who come into stores anonymously on a number of occasions, value consistency in quality dishes.

Mr Edelmen was inspired to fight for the honour after watching a Netflix show called Street Foods, which explores the ways different cultures make tasty cuisines.

KFC managing director Nikki Lawson told Daily Mail Australia the company thought Mr Edelman deserved a Michelin Star.

'We've recently discovered that one of our franchisee partners, Sam Edelman, believes Kentucky Fried Chicken should get a Michelin Star,' she said.

'He obviously has the same passion for the quality of our Kentucky Fried Chicken, and to be honest, we couldn’t agree more with him.

'Our fried chicken is fresh, hand-breaded and finger-licking good, so why shouldn’t it receive a star? We wish him all the best!'
