WESTPORT --- A 67-year-old Somerset man was the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash on Sunday morning after a pickup truck struck him at the intersection of American Legion Highway and Tickle Road.

Westport police reported that Cornelis Blom, 67, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of a 2006 Ford Ranger pickup truck was identified as Todd J. Medeiros, 48, of Tickle Road, who was not injured.

The accident occurred at 6:30 a.m.

When police arrived at the scene, witnesses pointed to Blom and his motorcycle, which after impact came to rest off the road near the wooded shoulder of the road.

Westport police officer Taylor Ryan attempted to revive Blom, administering CPR and using an automatic external defibrillator machine with the assistance of office Corey Mack, but they were unable to save the victim.

Massachusetts State Police, working with the Bristol County District Attorney’s office, were called to the scene with the department’s reconstruction and analysis unit. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s office was also called to the accident scene.

A preliminary investigation found that Medeiros was driving east on American Legion Highway and made a left hand turn north on Tickle Road.

Blom was traveling west on American Legion Highway when Medeiros turned into the path of his motorcycle.

Both the motorcycle and pickup truck were impounded and the accident remains under investigation, according to Westport police.
