A day after actor-turned-politician Kushboo complained on her Twitter handle about a container lorry parked in the corner of her street, the Chennai City traffic police swung into action and impounded the vehicle.
On June 22, Ms. Kushboo tweeted along with pictures: “this container has been parked at the corner of our street for the last 10 days, not even a single citizen around that has even bothered to check or complain.. it raises suspicion as it doesn’t even have a number plate. Urge @chennaipolice to kindly look into it immediately.” A day after, there was a response from the Chennai Traffic Police’s Twitter handle @CCTPolice_Alert asking her for the location. On Sunday, the police replied that the vehicle was impounded and requested her to download the GCTP citizen services app. “I appreciate their prompt response. It was at the end of my street. You cannot turn a blind eye to such a thing,” she said.
The traffic police took to Twitter in June 2017 and have over 9,500 followers. However, it is only recently that they started taking action on complaints raised on the social media platform.
Over the past month, a total of 500 complaints were tweeted. “We can take action only after verifying the complaint through CCTV footage. Many complaints pertained to haphazard parking and helmetless riding,” said a senior officer.
