Eagles lean towards challenging McGovern ban for Guelfi push
West Coast are leaning towards challenging Jeremy McGovern’s one-match ban for pushing Essendon’s Matt Guelfi into the Optus Stadium fence.
Star defender McGovern was reported for the incident which occurred during the first quarter of the Eagles’ win over the Bombers on Thursday night.
Match review officer Michael Christian subsequently assessed the conduct as careless, medium impact and high contact.
Guelfi was taken to hospital via taxi and suffered what the Dons said was “mild concussion”.
It’s understood the Eagles were set to consult their lawyer on Monday before making a final decision ahead of the Tuesday challenge deadline.
Should McGovern challenge, he will face the tribunal via video link from Perth on Tuesday night.
He is seeking to take on Hawthorn at the MCG this Saturday.
If the Eagles were to be unsuccessful at the tribunal they would lose $10,000 from their football department soft cap.
