UDHAGAMANDALAM: An elephant was electrocuted in Cherambadi range of forests in Gudalur division in the Nilgiris on Monday.
The 15-year old tusker was roaming in Koranjal area. When the locals chased the animal, the tusker entered a private farming land, according to forest officials.

The elephant was electrocuted when it encountered a snapped live wire hanging on a tree while trying to pull leaves from the tree. “However, the jumbo ran a few meters away from the tree and died,” a forest official said.
After conducting postmortem, the carcass of the elephant was cremated. Officials of TNEB visited the spot and conducted inspection. tnn
