Heavy downpour overflows Shimla drains

Most of the Shimla Municipal Corporation drains were seen overflown due to heavy downpour here on Monday evening.

The rain began at 1730 hrs and flooded most of the drains in the capital town’s Mall Road and Lower Bajar.

People had to take shelter under the shops on the mall roads as heavy down pour lasted for couple of hours.

Met Office recorded 56 mm rainfall at Sundernagar in Mandi, Chail in Solan 62 mm, Solan 33 mm, Saranh in Siramur 26 mm, Shimla 18 mm, Kufri nine mm, Bhuntar and Manali in Kullu and Rajgarh in Sirmaur five mm each.

Report of heavy snowfall, ending prolonged dry weather or drought like condition, were also reported from other parts of the state.

The Met Office attributed the present rainfall for pre-monsoon showers as the Monsoon is likely to advance in the state in the first week of July.
