Even as AICC President Rahul Gandhi is firm on his decision to quit, AICC in-charge of the party’s Telangana affairs RC Khuntia has advocated that Mr Gandhi should continue as the party chief.

Talking to media here on Monday, he said that TPCC President Uttam Kumar Reddy, MP, will continue as the party chief in the state adding that there were no deliberations on this aspect.
Mr Khuntia was also in favour of disciplinary action against the party MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy for the latter’s controversial statements including blaming the party leadership for the party’s poor showing in the recent Assembly elections.

Mr Reddy had also hinted at joining the BJP. He is the younger sibling of Mr Komatireddy Venkat Reddy who had won from the Bhongir Lok Sabha constituency in the recent general elections.
It may be mentioned that the Congress had bagged 19 of the 119 Assembly seats but after 12 of its MLAs had merged with the ruling TRS, it now left with six MLAs including Mr Rajgopal Reddy.

Mr Khuntia said that the meeting of the functionaries of the TPCC would be held at Nagarjunasagar on June 29 followed by MPTC and ZPTC meetings in the first week of next month.

After receiving reports on the party’s Assembly election performance right from the block level, the party leadership would review the reports and appropriate steps would be initiated.
