Coimbatore: A group of farmers from Anamalai petitioned the district collector on Monday, requesting him to release water from the old ayacut.
As per the district administration’s data, the Aliyar Dam has 65ft water and Parambikulam has 30ft water, the petition said.
The administration should release water through the old ayacut as it serves almost 5,000 acres of cultivable land across 18 villages, the petition said.
“Public works department officials told us that Upper Aliyar has 1TMC of water,” said G Patteswaran, district president of the South India Lake Merger Farmers Association. “We cultivate grains, sugarcane, coconut, fruits and have livestock. We need water now. But authorities say water is inadequate.”
