VADODARA: A 38-year-old diabetes patient committed suicide at his home
in Tarsali in the early hours of Saturday. Mitesh Gaekwad, who worked as a driver, had been suffering from diabetes for past three to four years and was tired of his persistent illness.
According to police, Gaekwad was sleeping with his family members on the terrace of his house, but came downstairs when the others were sleeping. Around 4.30 am when his mother came downstairs, she was shocked to find her son hanging from a ceiling hook. She alerted other members of the family who brought down Gaekwad’s body and informed Makarpura police station.
In their statements, the family members told police that Gaekwad was tired of consuming medicines and his blood sugar level was not under control. For past couple of days he had even stopped taking medicines.
“The family members said that the deceased was not depressed due to the illness, but he was a bit agitated,” said a police official.
His body was sent to SSG Hospital for post-mortem and later handed over to family members for final rites. A case of accidental death was registered at Makarpura police station.
Gaekwad is survived by his wife and 10-year-old daughter.
