Can’t Wait For The New Focus RS? A 395 HP Mk3 Might Do The Job Instead

With the fourth-gen Ford Focus out for more than a year now, enthusiasts are still waiting (and craving) for an all-new RS.

The new-gen hot hatch will eventually break cover, but if you simply cannot wait until then, you can opt for the new petrol-powered 280 PS (276 hp / 206 kW) Focus ST instead and its 2.3-liter EcoBoost. The Focus RS Mk3 remains a viable option, too, although you’ll have to turn to the used car market to find that perfect example.

When you do, you’ll get the opportunity to enjoy the 350 PS (345 hp / 257 kW) and 470 Nm (347 lb-ft) of torque, produced by the 2.3-liter turbo four. The all-wheel drive hot hatch is nearly as powerful as the first-gen Mercedes-AMG A45, and can sprint to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.7 seconds, from a standstill, and up to a 266 km/h (165 mph) top speed.

With a little help from certain tuning companies, the Focus RS can become even more powerful. Mountune, for example, can make the lump deliver 400 PS (394 hp / 294 kW) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. But what does that mean in the real world?

The answer comes from a video, which shows it hitting a 400 PS much as 270 km/h (167 mph) on the Autobahn. We don’t know if it was tuned by Mountune, but it’s, nevertheless, a sight to behold, especially at those dizzying speeds, from the cockpit.
