RANCHI: Six students received state of the art laptops on Saturday in the sixth round of Anant Prayas, a concept introduced by BIT Sindri Alumni Association (BITSAA) for helping poor students of the institution. Rajya Sabha MP Mahesh Poddar was attending as the members of
BITSAA, a body with 30,000 members across 39 countries, gave away laptops to the students.
Talking to TOI, RK Choudhary, CEO, Anant Prayas Trust said, “The idea of giving laptops to needy students at BIT Sindri came from our alumnus Alok Anant. We began with one
laptop in the first-round in 2016 and today, we are at sixth round of the same. BITSAA aims to expand the project and achieve a target of distributing 2,000 laptops to poor and needy students in the college by
2024.”
“The model is very sustainable. All the students who receive laptops during their course of study, start repaying the amount back to the trust in installments once they get placement. The amount will be used to buy laptops for the new batch of students. This year 58 students applied for the same and six were selected,” Choudhary added.
Akash Kumar Burnwal, the first recipient of a laptop under the programme said, “Coming from an economically poor background, buying a laptop was always a dream which was fulfilled in 2016 and because of it, I not only excelled in academics but also grabbed a package of Rs 7.5 lakh pa after graduating.”
