Electronic gadgets with exclusive applications and mobile apps will be used for collecting details as part of 7th economic census, according to K. Balasubramanian, Regional Joint Director of Statistics, Salem.
Presiding over a training programme for enumerators held here on Saturday, he said that the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) would soon start the seventh Economic Census throughout the country.
The statistics collected pertaining to all the economic activities in urban and rural areas were instrumental in designing the industrial policy of the Central and State Governments to a great extent. A standard data collection mechanism had been framed to collect accurate data at the field level.
Mr. Balasubramanian said that district-level coordination committee had been formed for carrying out the census. Induction trainings were being conducted in different districts. All out efforts had been taken to collect accurate data as much as possible. The enumerators would be given modern gadgets for the drive. They gadgets would have some exclusive applications. They would facilitate easy compilation of data and minimise errors.
R. Ravi, Deputy Director of Statistics, District Statistics Office, Tiruchi, who is also the coordinator of the District Level Coordination Committee, said the enumerators would visit all establishments and entities involved in every kind of economic activity from all areas including residential packets. The people should extend cooperation to the enumerators, he said.
Senior Statistical Officer of National Statistics Office, Tiruchi district, Sivakumar, imparted training to the participants.
He said that the census was proposed to be conducted by the village-level entrepreneurs (VLE). All village-level entrepreneurs would perform as first-level supervisors and the officials of the Department of Economics and Statistics, Government of Tamil Nadu, would act as as secondary supervisors. M. Justice Gopinath, District Coordinator of Common Service Centres, Tiruchi district, and others participated.
