PANCHKULA: Haryana’s first senior citizen home would come up in Sector 27 of Panchkula at a cost of Rs 14.40 crore.
According to the plan of the municipal corporation (MC), the home will have 90 rooms of two categories — single and family rooms. Each room would have a pantry and a toilet. The toilets would have non-slippery floors, grab and wall supports bars, sources said.
Last year, chief minister M L Khattar said the authorities were responsible for the construction of a senior citizen home owing to absence of an organised setup for the elderly population in Panchkula. The civic body had then chalked out the plan.
Rajesh Jogpal, MC commissioner-cum-administrator, said the state government has already given administrative approval for the project and the work would start soon. He said the project would be on no-profit basis and a nominal fee would be charged from the occupants.
He said the site selected has a picturesque location with parks in addition to local shopping and healthcare facilities.

Sources said each room would be designed in such a manner that it would have enough space for storage, TV, internet facility, balcony, window and ventilation in every unit. The rooms would be connected by two staircases and lifts, which would be able to accommodate a wheelchair and stretcher in case of emergency. A ramp would be at all levels from the ground floor to the sixth floor. The basement and stilt floor would be for parking of vehicles and office space. A proper kitchen with dining hall has been planned with provision for recreational, interactive and other indoor activities on the first floor of the complex. A medical room and health emergency facility would be on the ground floor near the entrance. The common area in the campus would be secured by a boundary wall with a security room and surveillance cameras.
Sources said the home wold be fully equipped with all modern day facilities like dish TV, Wi-Fi, filtered water with 24-hour supply, fire safety provisions, paramedical staff 24 hours, doctor on call, emergency panic buttons and exits, spaces for garbage processing and disposal system.
