PANAJI: Police on Saturday arrested two accused in separate cases involving the
rape of two
minor girls in North Goa.
While one case was booked by Porvorim police on Saturday, Old Goa police registered an FIR in the other on June 9, but made the arrest on Saturday. In the later case, police did not disclose details of the offence as they were looking to nab the accused, sources said.
In the Porvorim case, police said the minor was raped on multiple occasions, in September and October 2018 and in June. The incident came to light in June after the minor told her teacher that one boy was harassing her. The teacher immediately alerted her parents, who reported the matter to police.
During recording of statement by NGO, the minor disclosed that she had been raped and that the accused, who was around 20 years of age, had forceful physical relations with her, police said.
The minor in her statement also said that the accused had damaged her mobile phone and threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about their relationship.
In the Old Goa case, the mother of the minor in her complaint said her 15-year-old daughter had informed her about the alleged incident after being dropped home by the accused. Police had immediately registered an offence.
