Officers of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit seized 255 grams of gold concealed in a semi-liquid material and found in the possession of an air passenger at the international airport here in the late hours on Saturday.
The passenger Noorul Ameen of Ilayangudi in Sivaganga district arrived here from Kuala Lumpur by an Air Asia flight AK 23 when the Air Intelligence Unit officers on suspicion detained him.
Airport sources said the officers detected the semi-liquid material concealed in the waistband of the pant worn by Noorul Ameen.
The liquid material weighing 360 grams was seized and sent for examination during which the officers found that it contained 255 grams of pure gold worth ₹ 8.7 lakh. The smuggled gold was seized. Investigation was on, the sources said.
