Coimbatore: More than 100 people from Jambukandi and surrounding areas blocked the Anaikatti-Thadagam Road for several hours after a 35-year-old woman was killed in a road accident on Monday evening. They wanted the district administration to close a Tasmac outlet in Anaikatti.
The victim, R Shobana, 35, of Kanuvai was killed after a motorcycle carrying three drunk men rammed her scooter.
Shobana was residing in a rented house with her husband Dr Ramesh, who owned a clinic in Thadagam and her daughter R Shanthala, 16, a class XI student of Vidya Vanam at Anaikatti. “On Monday evening, when she was returning home after picking up her daughter from the school, a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction rammed the scooter at Jambukandi Pirivu. The mother and daughter fell on the road. Shobana died on the spot due to head injury. The girl also suffered multiple injuries and was admitted in a private hospital,” a police officer said.
The bike rider and two pillion riders, who also suffered injuries, were also admitted in a hospital.
People gathered at the accident spot and blockade Anaikatti – Thadagam Road from 5.15pm. The protest was ongoing even at 9.25pm. TNN
