Karnataka high court judge asks students to stay away from the rat race

As many as 104 students were awarded degree certificates on Saturday.
MYSURU: “Those who set their mind exclusively on earning money always fail. So, my advice to youngsters is not to hanker after money,” said Karnataka high court judge Justice Ravi Malimath here on Saturday.
Justice Malimath, who participated in JSS Law College’s 12th graduation ceremony, asked the outgoing students to be clear about what they wanted from their careers.
“Your friend opting for a particular job or course cannot be a factor in deciding your choice. Neither can your decision be motivated by what the majority of your peers are doing. Don’t be a sheep in a flock. You have to assess your strengths and interests, your ability, knowledge, et al and then come to a decision about the path you want to take. Students must strive to reach the top, but they must never get into the rat race,” he said.
Calling on the fresh graduates to value compassion and integrity of character, the high court judge added, “Students must be ready to face any and all challenges, but it is vital that they stay true to their principles. It is only through excellence that one can become the best in his or her profession. This can be accomplished through hard work. You must persevere in order to attain your goals. Grit, determination and perseverance help individuals achieve a great deal in life.”
Principal secretary of the Karnataka law department Shankrayya B Vastramath exhorted the law graduates to work for the betterment of the poor and downtrodden. He also advised them to stay abreast of advancements in their field in order to excel in their profession.

As many as 104 students were awarded degree certificates on Saturday.
