A marathon to create awareness on child abuse was held here on Sunday.
Deputy Police Commissioner (Law and Order) P.Thangadurai flagged off the marathon from Mahatma Gandhi stadium here. The five-km marathon passed via Cherry Road, Gandhi Road, Ramakrishna Road, Four Roads junction and concluded at Mahatma Gandhi stadium. Over 500 persons of various age groups participated.
Organisers of the event said that the aim was to create awareness amongst the public about crime against children.
Actor-musician G.V.Prakash presented awards to the winners. Micki House, a college student, bagged the first prize. Second prize went to Amenvel Athul and the third prize to Peter.
Mr. Prakash appreciated such awareness events and said that crime against children had increased and awareness was needed to prevent such crimes. Parents should be watchful about their children’s activities. He also said that everyone should work together with social responsibility to guide children in the right path.
