Compared to some of its US counterparts, this long-running British crime thriller can seen methodical to the point of plodding, but that’s part of its charm. Like its leading lady, the unassuming DI “Tosh” (Alison O’Donnell), it gets on with the job without any unnecessary distractions. Tosh’s stoicism and focus in the face of so much violence against women is heroic. Here, her team makes strides in the hunt for a Norwegian would-be terrorist.

Dick Wolf’s criminal profiling series has all the neatly resolved tension of his earlier crime dramas, but everything is ramped up a notch. Tonight’s fugitive ticks the “family annihilator” box, but exactly which of the four types he conforms to is up to steely special agent, Jess Lacroix (Julian McMahon) to figure out. No prizes for guessing that a woman is to blame. And you know a nail-biting takedown is on the cards.

New York Indie filmmaker Ry Russo-Young’s exploration of the effect of impending mortality on an otherwise blessed teenaged girl is far from the totally moribund drama it sounds. This “live today like it’s your last” narrative takes the premise of a certain 1993 Bill Murray classic and adds an ominous twist. Cursed by a premonition, Sam (Zoey Deutch) seizes her final day.
