Woman dies, 20 hurt in bus-truck collision in Mahisagar district

Locals rush to the accident site to help passengers
VADODARA: One person died and around 20 injured in a road accident involving a private mini luxury bus and a truck on Santrampur-Godhra highway in Mahisagar district on Saturday morning.
Police said that the rashly driven bus tried overtaking a vehicle at a high speed while passing by Umbar Tekra near Santrampur. The driver lost control of the bus and rammed into a truck coming from the opposite side. The collision made the two vehicles go off road with their front sides completely mangled.

On learning about the accident, locals rushed to help the passengers. Cops said that the injured persons were initially rushed to general hospital in Santrampur. A woman named Punji Damor, who hails from Fatehpura, succumbed to her injuries before she could be brought to the hospital. Eight others who were grievously injured were rushed to Godhra civil hospital. Sources said that of the eight, two were referred to SSG Hospital in Vadodara by Saturday evening. Twelve others who were being treated at Santrampur were discharged after administering primary treatment to them.
Cops have registered a case against the unidentified mini bus driver on charges of rash driving and causing death due to negligence.
