Representatives of non-Governmental organisations, corporate entities, educational institutions, and voluntary organisations had discussions with officials of various Government departments here on Friday, at a meeting convened by Coimbatore District Collector K. Rajamani.

The participants were members of Namma Covai, a forum consisting of government officials and representatives of various non-governmental organisations (NGO), the media, business and corporate sector, and associations based in the city.

The discussions were on issues pertaining to the city and the infrastructure requirements in some of the government facilities such as primary health centres and anganwadis, and on how the public could help in meeting these.

R. Raveendran, secretary of Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC), told The Hindu that around 150 people participated in the meeting held at the District Collectorate. “This is a first-of-its-kind meeting aimed at linking the members of the corporate sector, the community, and the government.

The immediate needs flagged by the district administration were adequate facilities for primary health centres (PHC) such as toilets, chairs and other equipment and facilities for government hostels such as bedding, water purifiers, and sports equipment. The meeting also highlighted the needs of the tribal community such as improving the anganwadis in the tribal settlements. Other needs included beautification of roads, planting of saplings and reducing traffic congestion.

According to Mr. Raveendran, the Collector said the meeting with the forum would be held once in two months.
