Locals, students roped in for the initiative

Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Sunday continued with her tree-planting exercise as part of Mission Green Puducherry.

With the involvement of locals and students, Ms. Bedi planted saplings around Kanakan lake. Students of the Government Higher Secondary School, Kadirkamam, Indira Gandhi Medical College and resident welfare association participated in the programme. In an effort to strengthen the bund of the lake, it was decided to plant trees, said a release from Raj Nivas.

Last year, Ms. Bedi had taken the initiative to clean up the Kanakan lake. “Two years ago, the lake was choked with hyacinth and sewage from the Government Medical College was let into the lake. Now, the lake is on the path of recovery. Its got a pathway and ring fence with trees planted by volunteers,” Ms. Bedi said in a message
