Collector (in charge) S. Shantha Kumar said the district administration was swiftly responding to complaints regarding water supply where the problem was acute by sinking borewells and providing pipes.
In a press statement, he said 331 problem areas had been identified. A sum of ₹9 crore had been provided by the State government to ensure uninterrupted supply of water. Kallikudi, Usilampatti and Kottampatti had been identified as problem areas. “Works have been completed in 272 spots in the district - 29 in Kallikudi, 18 in Usilampatti and seven in Kottampatti are in focus,” he said.
A sum of ₹3 lakh to ₹10 lakh had been allotted for each work, like sinking borewells, laying pipelines and overhauling available infrastructure.
The Andipatti Sedapatti Combined Drinking Water Scheme was providing 5.70 million litres per day (MLD) to 83 panchayats. “We are working round-the-clock addressing complaints and also follow media reports on water crisis. If there are any issues, they can be brought to the notice of district administration,” Mr. Shantha Kumar said.
