North Karnataka celebrates yoga day with enthusiasm, zeal

HUBBALLI/DHARWAD: Various schools, colleges and organizations celebrated the 5th International Yoga Day in the twin cities on Friday.
Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar took part in a yoga programme organised at Indira Glass House by Patanjali Yoga Shikshana Samiti, Yoga Sparsh Pratishthan, Arogya Bharati Trust, Lokahita Trust, Ayush Federation and Kanakadas Vidya Samsthe. He said that yoga helped him remain fit and appealed to people to perform yoga to lead a healthy life.
A programme was organized at Karnataka Gymkhana Ground in which hundreds of people took part. Dr Krantikiran addressed the gathering while Bhavarlal Arya led the programme.

Dr Suresh Duggani said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be given the Noble prize for promoting yoga across the world. He spoke performing yoga at an event organised by Dhanyosmi Yoga Kendra and Kshamata.
Someshwari of Brahma Kumari Eshwariya Vishwavidyalaya taught meditation to management, staff and students of Anjuman-E-Islam’s Nehru Arts, Science and Commerce College in Ghantikeri. Physical education director Irshad Makkubhai imparted training on yoga. R A Mulla, principal Kallanavar, Asha Rabb, Chillur, Sahera Navalgund, Yatnatti and others were present.
Sanskaar English Medium School principal Naina P C stressed on the need for yoga at a programme organized at the school.
At Kendriya Vidyalaya No.1, Raj Nagar, principal Ravi Rajesh emphasized the importance of yoga in daily life. Yoga teachers
Subhas Madiwalar and Somanath Kanthi demonstrated yoga postures at Oxford College. P U Principal Santosh Krishnapur and Degree principal Arifa Makandar told students to incorporate yoga in daily life.
Yoga expert M Eshwar spoke at a yoga programme at KLES’ College of Commerce. J Y Kadam, Gopal Hegade, principal S B Lakkanagoudar and others were present.
Speaking at a programme at KLES P C Jabin Science College, KLES director Shankranna Munavalli said yoga was a symbol of Indian heritage and is now being followed across the world. Principal SV Hiremath, BCA head Jyoti Maned, yoga students Pratik, C G Shivaraj, Shweta Veena, Daneshwari, Soumya Shivanand demonstrated yoga.
Deshpande Foundation conducted a yoga programme with with 1,500 participants at Deshpande Educational Trust campus. Srinivas Deshpande, a retired labour commissioner encouraged students to practice yoga daily.
Foundation CEO Vivek Pawar said, "Yoga helped me recover from a lethal disease. I could recover after regular practice and inculcating good diet. I now advocate all of you to make yoga a regular practice."
In M R Sakhare CBSE school, yoga day was celebrated by principal, teachers and students with great enthusiasm. Kushal, an alumnus of 2013 batch spoke about how he joined the navy and encouraged his juniors to follow him. Students demonstrated various asana followed by omkar chanting. Principal Sharmila Hemant encouraged students to practice regular yoga to be fit.
‘Yoga helps improve concentration’

Yoga helps achieve concentration besides keeping the person healthy, said Col. J D Sahasrabuddhe, officer commanding, 24 Karnataka Battalion NCC. He spoke at a mass yoga programme organised at Karnatak College here on Friday. Practicing yoga will keep a person away from harmful vices and help lead a quality life, he added.
About 1,500 NCC cadets, officers and soldiers from various wings of the Indian Defence forces from Dharwad, Kittur and Haliyal took part in the programme. Deputy director of food and civil supplies Sadashiva Marji inaugurated the programme. Chandru Lamani guided the participants to perform various asanas.
