AHMEDABAD: A sanitation sub-inspector with Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (
AMC) filed a complaint with
Vastrapur police on Wednesday, stating that a man of around 40, hurled
casteist slurs at him when he tried to fine the man for
peeing in the
open at Bodakdev.
Mahesh Makwana, a resident of IOC Road in Chandkheda has worked for the AMC since 1991. Makwana is presently deployed with the Joint Enforcement Team (JET) of the state government, in which cops and personnel of the civic body jointly impose fines for civic offences such as littering, spitting, peeing, for sticking posters on wall and illegal parking.
On Wednesday, Makwana and an estate sub-inspector of the AMC, a traffic police constable, an SRP constable and a driver were on duty, fining people who were violating the rules. At around 6.15pm, when they were on Sindhu Bhavan Road, they saw the accused who got out of his car and was about to pee, the FIR stated.
Makwana stopped him and told him that he should not pee in the open. The man then deliberately urinated there and challenged Makwana to click his picture. Makwana clicked the accused’s picture and one of his car. This irked the man and he asked Makwana’s name. After learning that the AMC officer was a Dalit, the accused began hurling casteist slurs at him and fled, the FIR states.
