World Cup 2019, India vs Afghanistan: Mohammed Shami’s last over hat-trick helped India pull off a thrilling 11-run win over Afghanistan in the World Cup clash at Southampton on Saturday. With 16 required off the final over, Shami’s first ball was hit for a boundary by Mohammad Nabi, but the pacer then bowled a dot ball and dismissed Nabi, Aftab Alam, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman in successive deliveries to guide India to their fourth victory in the tournament.
Earlier, disciplined show by Afghanistan bowlers at the slow track of Southampton restricted India to a modest 224/8 in the World Cup clash on Saturday. Skipper Virat Kohli remained the top scorer for India making 67 off 63 balls followed by Kedar Jadhav who made 52 off 68 balls. India kept losing wickets at regular interval as Afghanistan remained in control throughout the innings. For Afghanistan, Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib claimed two wickets while Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Aftab Alam, Rashid Khan, and Rahmat Shah bagged a wicket each.
After electing to bat, India got off to a poor start losing Rohit Sharma early. Sharma (1), who has been in a tremendous form in the tournament, was bowled out by Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the fifth over with just seven runs on the board. After India crossed 50-run mark, Mohammad Nabi removed KL Rahul in the 15th over. India suffered third blow in the form of Vijay Shankar (29 off 41) who was trapped leg before wickets by Rahmat Shah in the 27th over with 122 runs on the board. Very soon, skipper Virat Kohli was sent back by Nabi after his fighting knock of 67. Kedar Jadhav and MS Dhoni (28) then took the innings forward with their patient show.

INDIA WIN BY 11 RUNS
KABOOM! Shami takes a hat-trick! Only the second Indian to take a hat-trick in World Cups. What a comeback into the team for him. He was given the responsibility of the last over and has come out with flying colors. He keeps it simple, goes full and straight, right at the base of the leg stump. Mujeeb swings but misses and the ball kisses the leg pole. All smiles in the Indian camp AS THEY WIN BY 11 RUNS!
BOWLED!
Shami stikes again Still 12 from 2 balls?
WICKET
OUT! Shami finally gets Nabi! Still 12 from 3 balls!
FOUR
FOUR! Once again a boundary to begin Shami's over! Ideal start for Afghanistan. Shami misses the yorker by a little and ends up bowling a low full toss. Nabi powers it past long on for a boundary. Also, fifty up for Nabi. His 14th ODI fifty. Can he win Afghanistan this game?
16 from the final over
Brilliant over from Bumrah! Just 5 from it. Afghanistan need 16 from the last over.
Equation: 21 runs from 12 balls
Tremendous, tremendous stuff from Bumrah! A yorker, nothing you can do with that. It is jammed out towards point. 21 from 11....
Nabi keeps Afghans alive
SIXXXXX! Nabi has deposited Bumrah over backward square leg for a huge six! 80m- that one This is not over yet! AFG need 25 runs of 21 ball.
Chahal gets Rashid
Stumped! Beauty of a delivery. One leggie to another leggie and it's a beautiful sight, if you are an Indian fan. Nicely tossed up ball by Chahal. He serves it full and outside off, Rashid is drawn forward as tries to drive but it spins away to beat the outside edge. He has dragged his back leg outside the crease in a process as well and Dhoni needs no second invitation. 35 needed off 26 balls, this is getting close!
Final five coming up
So last 5 overs in the match. AFG 185/6, REQ: 8 rpo. Afghanistan need 40 runs in 30 balls.
Second wicket for Pandya
WICKET! Najibullah miscues an off cutter and chips it to mid-wicket. Hardik Pandya picks his second wicket of the innings. AFG- 169/6, need 56 runs in 48 balls
Najibullah keeps AFG on course
Wickets are falling around him but this is not stopping Zadran as he hits it up and over the infield! Minimum risk with mid off up in the circle. A length delivery around off, Najibullah strides forward and lofts it over the in-ring fielder for a boundary. AFG- 151/5 in 39.1 ovs
CLEAN BOWLED
TIMBER! Chahal has got the breakthrough. Once again, just when Afghanistan seemed like they were moving ahead, India strike. Yuzvendra tosses it up on off, it is the leg spinner.
Afghanistan break the shackles
FOUR! What a shot! Chahal slows this up in the air but lands it a touch short outside off, Nabi rocks back and cuts it through the line. Once it beats the diving point fielder, it's always going to the fence.
Caught and bowled! Bumrah Again
BOOM! 2 in 1 over for Bumrah and Virat Kohli is delighted! A brilliant caught&bowled and Shahidi walks back. Bumrah has turned things around and is sending jitters to the Afghan dressing room. AFG- 106/4, need 119 runs in 126 balls
Bumrah gets the breakthrough
WICKET! Jasprit Bumrah delivers for his captain with the wicket of Rahmat Shah. Brilliant diving catch by Chahal in the deep. AFG 106/3
A dual appeal?
Dual appeal there? First the bowler turned to appeal for an lbw and then Dhoni breaks the stumps to appeal for a stumping. India don't have the review to refer the lbw shout but the square leg umpire is going up to check for the stumping appeal. Meanwhile, 100 comes up for Afghanistan after 26.4 ovs
A maiden for Pandya.
India making Afghanistan work hard for their runs and building the pressure simultaneously, He is bowling well here and it's not easy for the new man to come and get going. AFG- 67/2 in 19 ovs
India get the breakthorugh
OUT! In the air... taken! Excellent bowling change by Kohli. Not many, trust me, after looking at his first spell, not many would have wanted Pandya to bowl at the moment. He though silences his critics by providing the breakthrough India needed. The short ball does the trick for him. AFG- 67/2 in 18 ovs
FOUR, FOUR
Back to back boundaries from Gulbadin Naib and Hardik Pandya is under pressure and is leaking runs here. This is a fine start for Afghanistan. Kohli can't take long to turn to Kuldeep. Afghanistan just need to bat sensibly to see this off. Interesting times! AFG- 54/1
10 overs gone
Afghanistan 37/1 in 10 overs against India, need 188 runs to win. Gulbadin Naib batting at 5 runs, Rahmat Shah batting at 10 runs.
Afghanistan lose their first wicket
BOWLED! Shami gets rid of Zazai for 10. This was on the cards as the batsmen was looking all at sea against the pace bowlers. Shami goes slightly fuller and around middle, Zazai once again looks to heave it across the line but the ball does not bounce as much as he expected it to and the stumps are shattered.
EDGY FOUR!
Afghanistan won't mind though. Good length and around off, angling away. Zazai looks to defend but the ball flies off the outside edge, past the diving Kohli at second slip and races to the third man fence. First boundary of the bat.
India lose their review
Team India lose DRS review! The ball pitches outside the leg-stump, just marginally. Kohli, Dhoni and Shami have a chat and then India review. Replays roll in and they show that the on-field call is the right one.
But Virat Kohli is arguing animatedly with the umpire. Kohli is not happy with the decision as he feels, quite some part of the ball did pitch inside leg. AFG- 6/0

Hazratullah Zazai and Naib are at the crease. Hazratullah Zazai is on strike. Shami will open the attack. Let's Play
AFG need 225 runs to win
After their pounding at the hands of England, Afghanistan have come back to restrict India to 224/8 after 50 overs. They now need 225 runs to win their first World Cup match. Yesterday, Sri Lanka did the unimaginable. Today, Afghanistan have a real chance to do the same. But they will have to bat exceedingly well. In a similar kind of a chase against Sri Lanka earlier in the tournament, they failed to overhaul a total of less than 200. India possess one of the best bowling attacks in this tournament and one can expect them to defend this total. Should be an exciting chase. Do join us in a short while
WICKET!
Jadhav's brilliant innings comes to an end, as Naib dismisses him. IND are 223/8 after 49.5 overs.
BOWLED HIM!
OUT! Gulbadin Naib gets Shami walking after making the bells fly away. IND are 222/7 after 49.3 overs.

CAUGHT BEHIND!
OUT! Hardik Pandya walks for 7 after being caught out off Alam's delivery. IND are 217/6 after 48.4 overs.
Spinning a web
Frustration for Afghanistan
After a failed stumping attempt, Rashid Khan failed again with a LBW attempt to get Jadhav out. A brilliant decision to get the original decision reviewed by India. IND are 206/5 after 47 overs.
FIRST SIX OF THE INNINGS!
Kedar Jadhav brings up the two hundred for India in style, punishing Aftab Alam with just one hand. IND are 205/5 after 46 overs.
Spin is the way
After not being dismissed by spin, India has been the prey of spin bowling five times today against Afghanistan. Hardik Pandya is on for Dhoni. IND are 194/5 after 45 overs.
STUMPED!
After a botched communication between the two batsmen, Afghanistan miss a glorious opportunity to run out Kedar Jadhav. Two deliveries later, the guilty Rashid Khan dismisses Dhoni with a brilliant stumping by Ali Khil. IND are 192/5 after 44.3 overs.
Foot on the pedal
Looking to up the runrate, Kedar Jadhav takes responsibility and smashes Aftab Alam's ball to fine leg for a boundary. Dhoni shows support too, by lifting the ball to deep extra cover. 11 runs from that over. IND are 190/4 after 43 overs.
Time to up the ante?
With Rashid and Mujeeb taking over the bowling attack, India are still looking out of options to deal with it. IND are 179/4 after 42 overs.
Not a walk in the park
Worrying runrate?
As the second powerplay came to an end, India's runrate has kept dropping in the last ten overs, but Dhoni did hit a boundary off Naib's delivery to lift it up to 4.39. IND are 175/4 after 40 overs.
Dhoni finding his feet
With Gulbadin Naib's first delivery of the over, Dhoni punished him with a cracking boundary. Jadhav and Dhoni's partnership is slowly building up at 28, but they do need to pick up the pace. IND are 163/4 after 38 overs.
Jadhav goes for four
Boundary! Finally. Jadhav decides he is ready to shift to the next gear. Hits a boundary on the on side.
