Varanasi: People in Kashi and adjoining areas heaved a sigh of relief with overcast skies bringing the temperature down and spells of rain cooling the parched ground on Saturday. India Meteorological Department confirmed the arrival of
monsoon in east UP and its further advancement in other parts of the region in next two to three days.
Even before IMD confirmed the onset of monsoon, people in Kashi and adjoining districts started experiencing relief from Friday night itself, when the minimum temperature dipped to 24 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal. The maximum temperature plunged to 30.6 degrees Celsius, 10 notches below normal.
Though the city recorded only 4mm rain, the weather remained pleasant throughout the day with people flocking markets, ghats and parks.
According to IMD, similar weather conditions will prevail in the city and adjoining areas for next three days.
