NAGPUR: Manjeet Wade was arrested by the crime branch on Friday in connection with the Boddy Makan kidnapping and murder case from his residence in north Nagpur. Wade, along with his close aide and friend Shailendra Singh Lohiya, alias Little Sardar, is supposed to be the mastermind behind the murder of the transporter in April this year. Wade has past criminal records.
Makan, whose body was found in the forest of Kondhali in the outskirt of the city on April 28, had been kidnapped from his office on Kamptee road on April 25. The case was later handed over to the crime branch which had invoked stringent MCOCA against six persons including Wade.
It’s learnt that Wade and Little Sardar had joined hands to eliminate Makan over some property and monetary dispute. Little Sardar too had been upset with Makan as he felt that the victim was the brain behind a murderous assault on him.
ACP, crime, Sudhir Nandanwar, the investigating officer said Wade was holed up in Nanded but had been exhausted by relentless fleeing to different places and staying undercover. “We received a tip-off that Wade was returning home and accordingly laid a trap for him,” said Nandanwar.
