JAISALMER: The process of conferring citizenship to Hindus from
Pakistan has gained momentum as another
six people, including five women, on Thursday were given citizenship in a programme by district collector Namit Mehta in
Jaisalmer.
Jaisalmer district administration organised a function at collectorate conference hall. It may be noted that some people have been waiting for last 21 years, some for 13 years and some for last 10 years to get the citizenship. Mehta along with additional district collector Bhagirath Vishnoi conferred the citizenship to Bhanwar Kanwar who got married in 1997 and received the citizenship after 21 years. Similarly, Mevi, Lekhu, Rupa and Gulab Bai came to India in 2005 but got the citizenship after 14 years. Rasal got married in 2008 and received citizenship after 11 years.
Nineteen Pak displaced Hindus were also given citizenship in
Barmer district on Wednesday. All expressed their gratitude to the district administration and said that now they will get access to all the basic facilities.
