CHANDIGARH: Various departments of Panjab University and colleges affiliated to it have been asked to ensure that no seat goes vacant in the upcoming admission season.
At a meeting of the dean university instructions (DUI), Shankarji Jha, with chairpersons and representatives of departments and colleges on Thursday, the DUI told all stakeholders to reach out to students via social media and emails and ensure maximum admissions. Professor Jha said, as per suggestions given in the meeting, the university may extend the last date of applications and permit late admissions with late fees if it found that seats were not filled.
"The admissions are just a few days away. We discussed strategies through which all colleges and departments can reach out to students and make it an easy experience for them," Jha said.
The last date for applying to PU is July 3. Admission fees will be accepted from July 15. Late admissions can be taken with permissions of the chairpersons of the departments and vice-chancellor after submitting a late fee of Rs 1,000 and 3,000 till August 31.
As per the indications of the meeting, if seats go vacant, the deadlines would be further extended.
Sources present in the meeting said they were told that for post-graduate admissions, the faculties were told to contact the undergraduate students of their departments.

The faculty has also been asked to be active on social media and give updates about their departments to students. For guidance, the faculty members have been asked to be present in their respective departments between 3 and 4 pm on working days so that candidates can reach out to them for more information.
The officials have also been told to set up help desks where students can reach out to inquire about admission formalities and procedures.
