NEW DELHI: A major fire broke out at the furniture market near
Kalindi Kunj metro station on Friday morning. Fire officials said 15 fire tenders were pressed into service to control the flames. No casualties were reported so far.
Metro services between Kalindi Kunj and Botanical Gardens had to be stopped due to the blaze.
Chief fire officer, Delhi, Atul Garg said they had received a call around 6am after which six fire tenders were rushed to the spot, however, the fire spread rapidly soon after due to which more fire engines had to be pressed into action.
Fire officials said the fire had spread rapidly since a large amount of wooden and plastic material were stored in the area.
Some of the houses in the area had to be evacuated by the
fire department and the police to prevent any mishap.
