Two government drivers working at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital here have been arrested on a charge of preparing bogus medical leave certificates and issuing them to government officials.
Acting on a complaint preferred by hospital Dean Saradha, the Government Hospital Police arrested drivers R. Veeramani, 44, and T. Balasubramanian, 51, and registered a case against them under IPC sections including 417 (cheating), 465 (forgery),468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (Using as genuine a forged document).
Police sources said the crime came to light after the medical leave certificates produced by a couple of government officials raised suspicion among their higher-ups. The certificates were sent to the government hospital authorities for verification during which it was found that the documents were bogus.
During detailed inquiries, the role of the two drivers in the preparation of bogus medical leave certificates with fake signature of a government doctor was detected. Following inquiry, the two drivers were arrested on Friday and sent for remand. A fake rubber stamp was seized from them.
