PM Modi braves rain showers to lead 5th International Yoga Day celebrations in Ranchi

RANCHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to make yoga a compulsory part of country's preventive healthcare system and take necessary steps to ensure that the wellness programme reaches the last person of the society.
Modi was here on Friday morning to grace the 5th International Day of Yoga where he performed yogic asanas along with over twenty thousand people at the Prabhat Tara ground.
The Prime minister braved light rain showers along with the yoga enthusiasts during the first ten minutes of the yogic exercise that was instructed by Dr Ishwar V Basavaraddi of Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga.
Prior to yogic performance, Modi in his 20 min long speech gave three reasons for choosing Ranchi as the destination for IDY celebrations. "The place -jharkhand- by its name is close to nature and yoga also means being in harmony with nature moreover it has the history of successfully launching worlds largest health insurance scheme for masses in September last year known as Ayushman Bharat scheme," he said adding that the AYUSH ministry now proposes to take up yoga in a big way in the preventive healthcare protocol of the country.

Modi said that this years theme- Yoga for heart, aims at addressing lifestyle related disease condition of the young generation which is being prone to heart disease in huge number. "Yoga is not for a country, place, caste, creed, gender or religion. Today people across various countries would be performing yoga which has to be made an integral part of their daily lifestyle so that they are not gripped by heart ailments," he said.
On this occassion Minister of State for AYUSH Ministry Sripad Yashonayak announced PM Award for promotion and development of yoga 2019 in four different categories. The national award in individual category went to Rajashree Muni of Gujarat while institutional category award went to Munger school of yoga, Bihar. At international level PM award in individual category went to Ms Antoniou of Italy while in institutional category Japan Yoga Niketan was selected for the honour.
