free of cost to the people.
The forest minister added that a target has been set to plant 550 saplings in every village of Punjab as part of the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev. The plan would see 75 lakh saplings being planted, he added.
Dharamsot said to date, around 2,000 villages out of over 13,000 have been covered under the plantation drive. He said that saplings are being prepared in more than 200 nurseries of the forest department.
As per the anti-encroachment campaign undertaken by the forest department, to date 5,000 acre land has been freed from illegal encroachers and the drive to plant saplings on this land is under process. Dharamsot also said that under a special scheme, four lakh saplings of vegetables were distributed absolutely free.
