Water drawn through the various drinking water schemes must reach the last households, said C.N. Maheshwaran, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board (TWAD), here on Thursday.
Speaking at a review meeting on drinking water distribution held at the Collectorate, Mr. Maheshwaran said that there are a total of 13 comprehensive drinking water supply schemes implemented by TWAD Board in Coimbatore district, including the Pilloor Scheme and Siruvani Scheme.
Noting that the local body officials must ensure the supply of water to all the areas, Mr. Maheswaran also stressed the importance of awareness programmes on water conservation, according to a press release.
‘Conduct inspections’
Mr. Maheshwaran also asked the officials to conduct inspections at the ground level to discover the areas that need water and areas with surplus water to share the water equitably.
Officials from TWAD Board and local body officials from seven districts (Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Salem, Namakkal, Karur, Erode and the Nilgiris) along with other government officials participated in the meeting, the release said.
A meeting on drinking water supply in the district was held in the presence of K. Sivakumar, Corporation Commissioner, in Tiruppur on Thursday.
During the meeting, the Commissioner urged the officials to act on the complaints received from the people regarding poor water supply.
Seven water trucks of the Corporation and nine private water trucks are currently in use for distribution of drinking water in Tiruppur. Health officials must also ensure the level of chlorine in the drinking water periodically, Mr. Sivakumar said, according to a press release.
