KCR to inaugurate Kaleshwaram irrigation project today

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will dedicate the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project to the nation today.

The mega project seeks to harness the Godavari river water through a series of pumping stations and storing the water in number of reservoirs.

The project will be commissioned after chanting of Vedic hymns at the project site in the presence of Governor ESL Narasimhan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Phadnavis and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy.

The project has been developed in a record time of three years and it will support 45 lakh acres of ayacut, provide drinking water to parched parts of the state, Hyderabad, Secunderabad and to industrial consumers.

It also seeks to recharge groundwater and fill various tanks and support other schemes of ‘Mission Bhageeratha’ and ‘Kakatiya’.

The project, which is considered to be an engineering marvel, has tunnel works of over 203 km and has a number of heavy duty pumps, including seven with 139 me capacity, deployed to pump up about 2 TMC per day and later hike it to 3 TMC.
