Huawei P30 Pro, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 10, and more smartphones will be getting Android Q update

“The Android Q update will have the Huawei’s upcoming EMUI 10 custom skin running atop”

Huawei has announced a list of its smartphones that will be getting Android Q update. The handsets include flagship Huawei P30 Pro, Huawei P30, Huawei Mate 20 Pro, and others. This comes despite the ongoing US trade blacklisting, which barred Chinese OEM from conducting business with all American companies including Android-maker Google. Huawei has its Android and other popular services, including the Google Play Store, Gmail, and YouTube suspended in order to comply with US government blacklisting.

However, the vendor has released a statement saying that its “current devices” will be getting the upcoming Android Q update. Huawei P30 series, Mate 20 series, Huawei P Smart series, Huawei Mate X series, Huawei P20 series, and Mate 10 series are all set to get the next iteration of Android OS, which comes with system-wide dark mode, improve privacy features, new colour theme for the system, and bunch of other improvements. Notably, Huawei will use its own custom skin EMUI 10 atop Android Q.

As revealed by XDA Developers last week, the EMUI 10 custom skin is likely to have an overhauled user interface and icons of the new firmware. The camera app is also redesigned with added scene support and a new layout.

“Our most popular current devices, including the P30 series, will be able to access Android Q. In fact, we have already launched a beta developer programme for Android Q which is running right now on our Mate 20 Pro device,” Huawei says. The company further added that its existing portfolio will continue to receive security updates and will not lose access to the Google Play store.

In related news, an IANS report citing anonymous industry sources claims that Huawei’s sub-brand Honor will also be rolling out the Android Q update to its flagship Honor 20 series smartphones. It also mentions Honor View 20, 10 Lite, Play, and 8X may also get the update.
