Amazon has updated its top-of-the-line e-reader, the Kindle Oasis, with 4G connectivity and an adjustable warm light for ease of reading. The new Kindle Oasis from Amazon comes in at the same price point as its predecessor and starts at Rs 21,999 for the 8GB storage and Wi-Fi-enabled variant. The price of the new Kindle Oasis goes up to Rs 24,999 for the 32GB storage + Wi-Fi variant and Rs 28,999 for the 32GB storage + Wi-Fi + 4G variant. The device is up for pre-order on Amazon India and pre-book customers will get 100% off on the purchase of any one eBook (upto Rs 500). It comes in Graphite and Champagne Gold colour options.
Just like the previous version of the Kindle Oasis, this too comes with IPX8 rating for water resistance. What this means is that the e-reader can withstand immersion of up to 2 meters in freshwater, for up to 60 minutes.
In terms of specs, the Kindle Oasis (10th Gen) features a 7-inch glare-free Paperwhite display with a pixel density of 300 ppi. It weighs 194 grams and users can now adjust the shade of the screen from white light to a warm amber. Users also have the ability to schedule light changes for a more personalised experience. Further, the new Kindle Oasis, like the old one, also has an adaptive front light that automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen based on lighting conditions.
In terms of battery life, Amazon says that the device can last for six weeks on a single charge, provided one reads half hour per day with wireless and Bluetooth off and the light setting at 13. The device can charge fully in approximately 3 hours using a 5W USB 2.0 power adapter or computer via USB cable.
Content formats supported on the device include -- Kindle Format 8 (AZW3), Kindle (AZW), TXT, PDF, unprotected MOBI, PRC natively; HTML, DOC, DOCX, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP through conversion. The device does not support playback of Audible audiobooks.
So essentially, the only additions to the new Kindle Oasis are 4G connectivity (previous one was 3G) and adjustable warm light.
Amazon gives buyers a 1 year warranty on the e-reader and says that Prime members will be able to read free with unlimited access to books, comics and more. The company is also offering three months of Kindle Unlimited at just Rs 2 with the purchase of the tablet. After three months, Kindle Unlimited is just INR 169 per month.
